30 Year Milestones

August 2016:

Laurie Meier, Senior Associate, celebrates 30 years with BDA as a valued member of the firm’s senior leadership.

June 1986:

BDA moves from Michael’s apartment to its first office in Hollywood, CA, and is awarded Carolco and the American Film Marketing Association’s (AFMA) headquarters.

This launches the firm’s focus on designing for creative and entertainment media companies which include work for large studios; Paramount, Warner Bros., Time Warner CNN’s Los Angeles offices/news room & broadcast studios, Fox and Fox Networks, Universal, Disney, and independent production companies such as Summit, Cinergi, New Regency, Saban Entertainment, Polygram Filmed Entertainment, Working Title, Gramercy, and Village Roadshow; music companies such as Maverick Records and Rhino Records, entertainment advertising and post production facilities such as The Ant Farm, Drissi Advertising, Eleven Sound, Sound Deluxe, Digital Domain’s Commercials division, and The Cimarron Group. All of this and work for BBDO West, The Yucaipa Companies and Ron Burkle in Los Angeles/New York, Palm Springs and the interior of their Boeing 757, Nestle USA’s headquarters, and design of casinos in Budapest Hungary, while located in Hollywood in larger offices until its move near Culver City in July, 2012. BDA continues working with Warner Bros, Fox and Fox Networks, Disney, The Yucaipa Companies and other clients on creatively challenging projects led by principals Michael Beckson & Steven Heisler, with its two senior associates, Laurie Meier and Holly Sundseth. This senior core has worked together for over 20 years.

May 1986:

Michael L. Beckson Design Inc. becomes Beckson Design Associates, Inc. (BDA), and brings on more staff.

October 1985:

Michael L. Beckson Design Inc. starts working on its first projects in Los Angeles for Grubb & Ellis, Westco Savings, Firemans Fund Insurance and the Orange County Performing Arts Center.

Warner Bros. DC Entertainment
Burbank, CA
Relocation of Warner Bros DC Comic’s publishing from NYC to additional floors, joining DC’s entertainment groups in its creative headquarters in Burbank. The design is consistent with the entertainment division’s full floor that BDA completed a few years previous to this final move, but with some unique features that give publishing special identity.
Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment - Gaming
Burbank, CA
Remodel of two corporate floors converted to highly branded creative space to support technology, innovative work and collaboration.
Fox Networks and 21st Century Fox
Fox Studios Lot- Los Angeles, CA
Complete demolition of the top floor of News Corp’s western headquarters in order to create a new executive floor housing both the headquarters of Fox Networks and the western headquarters of 21st Century Fox, resulting in increased utilization of the floor because of the collaborative layout and increase in meeting areas.
20th Century Fox Television
Fox Studios Lot- Los Angeles, CA
Complete demolition of the existing full floor headquarters to create a new design concept with special amenities to support the future needs of this producing division of the Fox Television Group.
Disney Channel/ABC Television Group-Creative and Media Services
Burbank, CA
Full floor post production facility at the Disney Channel serving all of the ABC Television Group, with an audio mixing studio, editing suites, quality control screening rooms, visual effects (VFX) edit rooms, graphic editing suites and pods, machine room, creative work areas, and collaborative areas.
Frank Lloyd Wright’s Ennis House

Restoration and custom furnishing of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Ennis House.
Nestlé Company Store - The Nest
Glendale, CA
New retail store for Nestlé USA employees and visitors to their US headquarters. The new store was relocated from the parking garage to a larger suite off the ground floor lobby of the headquarters, and was custom designed for both consumable products and other product lines from the wide variety of Nestlé products including cosmetics and promotional items. Branding displays were incorporated into the design.

Two full floors of new workspace and edit suites with an emphasis on collaboration and meeting spaces with special amenities to support future technology and distribution platforms for FX Networks and other producing divisions.

Burbank, CA
Restack and remodel of this critical technology and security division that services all of Warner Bros to accommodate the evolving nature of workflow and technology.
